Business Focus with Mission and Vision Statements

8, 2005 -- An early pioneer in Internet Consulting, Novo
Solutions, Inc. in Virginia Beach , VA began by offering their clients
a full range of services from web design, hosting, and web based solutions
to custom project consulting. With its founding employee, Novo's initial
mission and vision statement included providing affordable, innovative
business solutions to small and mid size companies.
Now in its sixth year, Novo
has begun a process of realignment of its business focus. "We began to
look at core software that could provide solutions that weren't as labor
intensive" said Anne Sych, Novo's Marketing Manager. "Our focus changed
from custom web services to customer support software development that
could be marketed to multiple businesses. This made our current mission
statement obsolete."
Novo's business shift would now require a consensus of a staff of six,
on new products and sales, and change in use of offsite developers. "Using

was, where it was going, where we wanted our market to be and more importantly,

our mission. It became easier to define market products and understand
the cost of not operating a visionary, market driven company."
Opinions from the staff were sought by selecting components of the process
and distributing them to the staff for response. At staff meetings the
flip chart reflected the three top statements of importance by each employee,
with a grid for the common denominator. "This book's process congealed
different personalities with the focus on the mission" said Ms. Sych.

Inc. has created a mission statement that carries team ownership. We now
are in the process of creating our Vision Statement."
