How to Have an Effective Vision

  • Become the vision's foremost preacher
  • Articulate the vision clearly and forcefully on every occasion
  • Be sure your vision is inspiring, clear and challenging
  • Model your action consistent with the vision at all times
  •

    - Does Your Vision Statement Need New Life? -

Are you getting the desired results from your vision statement?  If not, here are a few ideas to help you successfully bring your vision to life:

Get the perspectives of your employees and customers and gain valuable insight and support for the vision.

Be sure your vision statement is clear and specific; inspiring statements are great, but people interpret words very differently.

Implement the vision with professional input, a plan to accomplish the desired future, and allocate resources.

Use many communication modes and vehicles; be sure your communications are a fit for the audience

Use what is already working; share your vision via avenues that customers and employees already use

Make the connection for those who work with you to achieve your vision -- let them see how they play a part in the achievement

Make your vision understood as the direction in which your business or effort is going to move

There is no sure-fire recipe for a successful action to vision plan and you must be willing to change and recognize what is working and what is not.  However, with a clearly understood and meaningful vision statement, the desired horizon is much clearer.  Be sure to keep your vision statement -- your statement of your desired future -- updated and in use as frequently as possible.
